Juggling family life and your finances

One of our main goals here at TWiCE is for people to achieve financial freedom so they can lead the life they love, but it goes without saying that there’s a fair bit of work needed to get there. It’s easy enough to say you need to do this or that to get on the right track, but sometimes it’s more complicated than that. TWiCE looks to give everyone real world solutions, and that means juggling your current commitments and responsibilities with your goals.

Many who come to TWiCE share the common challenge of balancing family life with finances. Often times our finances can get in the way of our personal lives, especially those with families. Financial stress can negatively affect parents, and that stress can often transfer into the home environment. A stressful or negative environment at home can end up impacting your kids, which no one wants. Every parent wants to provide everything they can for their kids; so then how do you go about making sure you nurture those you care for the most, but still work towards getting ahead financially?

There are a lot of different strategies that can work for different people. At TWiCE, we believe that keeping both your family and financial lives under control is often made easier with good time management. Mapping out and managing your time, whether it’s daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, can enable you to keep on top of where your money goes and what your priorities are.  This doesn’t necessarily mean planning your day by the minute (for some that might work), but having a general idea of what needs to be done and when,  can do leaps and bounds for you. Having clearly defined work objectives means you know what you have to get done, but allows you to fit it into a schedule that works for you. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, so a clear but flexible plan, whether it’s a day or a year, means you’re ready to tackle what’s ahead.

In terms of making sure that your family life doesn’t get taken over by your financial life, there are a lot of things you can do to try and find the right balance. A lot of it comes down to the small stuff, the little things that help you get by. One of our TWiCE members makes sure that when they get home, they’ll hop in the shower and have a quick rinse for a couple minutes before getting involved with the kids. For them it’s a case of rinsing off the day and starting fresh so they can put the most into their family when they’re with them. Another option might be making sure to have a family night dedicated to spending time with each other. Whether it’s going out and doing something together or just chilling and watching a movie, spending that time together allows everyone to switch off and enjoy each other’s company, even just for a little bit.

TWiCE wants to help everyone get the financial freedom they deserve, and not at the cost of those you care about the most. If you want to find out a bit more about what we do and how we can help, it might be worth getting into contact with us.
